My friend Audric and I recently completed a 6-week canoe trip from Hay River down the Mackenzie and out to Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean. It was just as wonderful as it sounds.
At first, we were reluctant to start this trip, since the organization of an expedition seemed daunting. However, once we discovered Doug and his wife Theresa at Canoe North, we realized that the unpleasant organizational part was already provided for. Not only did Doug and Theresa have all the equipment ready for us -- canoe, drybags, food barrels, topo sheets and river charts, life vests, etc. -- but they also provided us with detailed information on the route and training on the canoe (we had never canoed before). Furthermore, their rates are very reasonable.
Doug and Teresa were very kind to us. If you are considering a river trip, particularly a Mackenzie River trip, you could not possibly go wrong with Canoe North.
